Dear Metaversalists,
Something's stirring in Florida, and it's not just the palm trees at Art Basel.
Ever wondered what it would look like if Pokémon and GTA had a Sunshine State baby? Behold, Florida Man.
Florida Man cards are collectibles for the 21st century: not the adorable Japanese monsters you're used to, but a wild rollercoaster ride through the debauchery of Florida's finest. They’re a motley crew, from panhandle pariahs to swamp swindlers, lagoonatics, and every other flavor of tanned, vest-wearing, gator-baiting miscreant.
These cards capture the essence of those who turn a regular day in Florida into headline-grabbing chaos. Think GTA VI, but with even better art and storytelling. We’re proud to introduce you the first three collectible cards.
Every card has a different level of rarity, and they’re available for only a limited period of time on Zora (a platform we’re loving and one that feels aligned with the Florida Man mission).
How were the cards created? Our design team and Runway AI 🤝 working in harmony.
And in case you were wondering, YES, we’re giving some away! To claim yours, join the Metaversal Telegram community.
You’ll be pleased you aren’t related to any of these miscreants. Unless you are, in which case, we’re sorry this is the way you’re learning what Uncle Trev did with that gator. Also, you can always change your name.
More Florida Man cards will be released soon. Collect ’em all! Trade with your friends! Try not to get arrested!
While our founders are still emotionally recovering from this drop… let me give you some tech updates (and I promise, it’s Gemini-Lie-Drama-free and might even make you forget that you're shelling out an extra $8 for an anti-woke Grok):
Runway, the video AI alchemists, have decided the future is all about canine intelligence. Yes, you heard it right — their software is learning to think like dogs. And they've unleashed this announcement with a rather fetching video.
It's also the end of the year for the now-teenaged ChatGPT, which many users have reported as being a bit... well, lazy. I can vouch for that: it took some complex
beggingprompting for me to get ChatGPT to help me fix the dishwasher. Its go-to advice? “Call a human.” Gee thanks. On the lighter side of AI, meet Cappella — the tech equivalent of a baby whisperer, here to decode your infant’s cries. And for those in need of a sassy NFL commentator who'll roast your fantasy football team with panache, say hello to your new virtual buddy, Siders.
If your digital life is a cluttered mess, this new simple and intuitive app is what you need. It's here to organize and back up your digital chaos (because who doesn't love a tidy desktop?).
Amidst the daily grind of feeding the algorithmic beasts to stay afloat in the fickle attention economy, superstar producer Rick Rubin reminds us the real reason we create art. Spoiler: it's not for the “likes.”
And, if you're struggling to channel your inner Rubin, take a leaf out of Zancan’s garden. He's laying it all bare about his latest drop, and who should (and shouldn't) buy it. In the world of high-stakes digital art, it turns out that authenticity is still king.
As winter unfolds, a wave of exciting opportunities for artists are rolling in. Here's a glimpse of some ongoing open calls:
John Knopf is bringing an exceptional opportunity to the Photo Space. Starting from today, you can submit your artwork monthly on FOTO. In their first month, FOTO will select 50 photographers and will continue to add 10 new talents each month.
The platform Sloika.xyz has recently announced their project, "Luminous Vision: Beyond Depiction” in partnership with Directory.art and Mondoir Gallery. Artists interested in participating should mark their calendars; the deadline for submissions is December 30.
Musicians, take note! There are exciting opportunities just for you. The Frank Huntington Beebe Fund Fellowship is accepting applications until January 1st, and the BMI Foundation has set their deadline for February 15.
Lastly, don’t miss out on Creator’s Monday, our favorite open call. Every week, we feature the amazing works of our community members. If you’re eager to have your work reviewed and showcased, share it with us in the Creator’s Corner channel in our Telegram.
What the Metaversalists are up to:
Creator’s Monday Season 1 started off strong with Stuz0r, Snowfro, Bryan Brinkman, and Fahad Karim. For our next episode, we have something a bit different in store. If you are struggling with content creation, social media, and Solana, you may want to join our next Space with the legendary Sol-Jakey. And don’t be shy, feel free to hop on stage with us!
Metaversal HQ also has an incredible guest lined up, but I can’t reveal who just yet. 👀
Our Friday afternoon teas on Telegram are epic if you want to chat about all things art- and creativity-realted and meet new people in the Web3 space. It's a great opportunity to connect and share ideas, so we'd love to see you there!
Thank you for reading, I am pleased to announce that from January this newsletter will be hitting you inbox weekly again.
I’d love to hear what you thought about this issue. Let us know if you loved it (or hated it) on Twitter or via content@metaversal.gg.
